Tony was New Zealand National Champion in 1989, 1990 and then 2000
Highlights between 1990 and 2000 were Tony's involvement with Abracadabra during the 2000 Americas Cup, Steinlager Cup Match Racing and various record attempts
From July 2000 Tony was part of the core team of the SEB Volvo Round The World Race syndicate. He was responsible for sail design and watch captain

Tony is one of the few guys who's considering taking extra luggage. It weighs all of a gram and if anything it will speed him on, not slow him down. It's a picture of his eight-month-old son Alec. Judging from his unfortunate experience with the broken mast, he knows the risks involved in ocean sailing. Luckily, that time no one was injured. But equipment failure like that inevitably means the race is over. And that is almost just as bad.

Where meals on board are concerned, Tony looks at the bright side of freeze dried cuisine and moisture suckers (energy bars, etc.): "You always get a favourite dish that reappears once every few days. And in those conditions, I sort of look forward to it."
