1985
First introduced to the sport of sailing in a Mirror dinghy at the Deben Yacht Club in Woodbridge, Suffolk at the age of six.

1986-1991
Regular dinghy sailing all around the East Coast in Mirrors and Toppers mainly.

1991-1997
Whilst at St. Joseph’s College, Ipswich, mixed schoolboy rugby and sailing as much as possible, managing to do both for school and county. Numerous open meeting and junior regatta week successes all around the country in Lasers and Larks, including winning the Suffolk Schools Sailing Championships and several top five results at the National Schools. Rugby commitments prevented participation in the RYA youth sailing schemes.

1997-2001
Studied for an Engineering degree at the University of Exeter (graduated July 2001 with a 2:2 Hons). Was selected as captain of the 1st sailing team for all four years, reaching the team racing finals on three occasions. Won the British Universities Dinghy Sailing (BUSA) championships. Was twice nominated for university sports personality of the year.
Out of university, sailed a huge selection of boats ranging from dinghies to hi-tech 40ft race yachts. Many top ten national championship results and race wins in a variety of boats, such as Larks, 707s and Laser 5000s.

Sept 2001
Started work at Larkman’s boatyard in Woodbridge and quickly decided that this was the perfect opportunity to start a career as an ocean racer with the Mini Transat Class.
