James Bird, 20, has been sailing since he was 8. In that time he has clocked up an impressive 10,000 miles including a double handed trip from New York to Southampton, aboard the fastest Open 50 on the water, sailthatdream.com, most recently Brad Van Liew's steed, Tommy Hilfiger Freedom America, in the last Around Alone Race.

Prior to the start of the Mini Trnsat 2003, James worked as a sailmaker at Hyde Sails. This combination of experiences gives James a unique set of skills to put together a boat and campaign that are second to none.
