Since 1983 this young Dutch sail maker has been around the offshore racing arena. He started sailing when he six , and competing since he was twelve. So for 22 years he has been sailing competitively. He has been competing in sailing events all over the world in a great variety of boats. In 1999, Gerd Jan turned into a full time sailing professional, participating and winning the Admiral’s Cup and the European Swan Championship as a hard working bowman. "We all have dreams," he said. Sailing the Volvo Ocean Race is a dream and a "crowning achievement" for him, and he looks forward to the continual coaching on how to improve his performance.
